Gypsum has been
used in new construction floor underlayments for many years, mainly
because it is economical,
creates a sound barrier for apartments and condominiums, is fireproof,
and most importantly has been effectively marketed throughout the
construction industry.
It is also widely
known that the flooring
industry in general are not happy with the performance of some gypsum
floor underlayments. Check out any number of forums on the
internet to see first hand the problems floor installers are having and
what they think. When there is not a solid bond between the glue
and the floor due to dusting, delamination of the flooring can
occur. In fact, it
is not uncommon to rip up perfectly good flooring after 2 years of use
because of delamination problems. A simple, inexpensive solution for
this problem is using Gyp-Lock.
WITH
GYPLOCK,
GYPSUM CAN BE
HARDENED
and
DUST FREE
WITHOUT CREATING A SURFACE MEMBRANE
Here is a typical scenerio on a job site: the Gypsum is poured
and allowed to dry, then the plumbers, electricians, drywallers,
painters, and numerous other trades people come in and do their work
over a period of days and weeks. They walk around and haul their
equipment over the Gypsum, scratching and damaging the surface.
As you know, Gypsum is very brittle and has very poor abrasion
resistance, and any scratches or faults in the Gypsum will create
dusting problems. The flooring guy comes back in (he's next
to the last of the tradespeople to work on the project) and has to put
a floor on top of the badly dusted, scratched and damaged Gypsum
floor. It's enough to give anyone nightmares.
The only solution being offered in the industry now is to put a latex
or acrylic on the Gypsum. These products however, will leave a
surface membrane,
which interferes with the proper adhesion of glue down floor coverings,
and can cause major delamination problems.
Until now
there has been no
satisfactory solution for the flooring industry.
Gyp-Lock
Sealer was engineered and designed to work exclusively with
the special chemical properties of Gypsum
based cements. Gyp-Lock penetrates the Gypsum and strengthens the
top wear layer producing a hard, dust free and abrasion resistant
surface that
adhesive glues easily bond to. Gyp-Lock seals and strengthens, yet
does not
create a surface
membrane that would interfere with bonding.
The benefits of Gyp-Lock Sealer are not only important in the initial
phase of
floor installations, but are also important after years of wear and
tear on the floor. High traffic areas create abrasion and
abrasion causes irreparable damage to the Gypsum below.
Literally Gypsum can turn to dust from years of foot traffic and this
will subsequently causes major delamination problems for the flooring.
